Working Theory

The CO2 laser is a gaseous laser with a wavelength of 10.6 μm that is fully absorbed through human biological tissue (all skin available). The sealed-off fractional CO2 laser, whose output laser-light is delivered through an articulated arm, which has better direction and higher energy density.

The CO2 laser operates in the invisible infrared waveband, and an aiming beam is required to see where the treatment beam will impact tissue more recently from a visible red diode laser. When the laser beam go through the focus lens, the produced heat will gasify the target tissue.

With fractional laser resurfacing the laser beam is broken up or fractionated into many small micro beams which are separated so that when they strike the skin surface small areas of the skin between the beams are not hit by the laser and left intact. These small areas of untreated skin promote a much more rapid recovery and healing with less risk of complications. The small areas treated by the fractional micro beams, called micro treatment zones, cause sufficient laser injury to promote new collagen production and resultant facial skin rejuvenation.

Cautions before treatment

① Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks prior to treatment and apply sunscreen as a precaution.

② Avoid aspirin-containing or aspirin-like medication for 1 week prior to treatment, unless medically prescribed. Avoid all-alcohol, fish oil-based supplements and vitamin E as far as possible.

③ Discontinue the use of skin care products containing vitamin A analogues (e.g. retinoids, Daphne (adapalene, propylene glycol and EDTA gel) or those containing fruit acids for 1 week prior to treatment and do not resume use until 2 weeks after treatment.

Cautions after treatment

① Do not touch the area with your hands immediately after treatment to prevent bacterial infection; use topical or no antimicrobial ointment on the treated wound according to medical advice to prevent bacterial infection.

② Keep the wound clean and dry and avoid water for 3-7 days. The surrounding skin can be cleaned with a wet towel.

③ After crusting, wait for the epithelium to repair and then remove the crust on its own, without forcing it off to prevent damage to the epidermis and prolong the healing time.

④ After debridement of the exposed area, avoid sun exposure or apply sunscreen to prevent hyperpigmentation. If hyperpigmentation occurs, apply depigmentation cream or wait for 3 months or more for it to fade naturally.

⑤ After debridement, the lesion should be checked for residue and if there is any, it should be reviewed for early treatment.

Contra indications
